BAUMC Local Missions

Whether it's furnishing building supplies and other materials or working through the Local Missions Subcommittee as a volunteer, local missions are opportunities for everyone in the church to help.

Weekly Service Opportunities
- Monday evenings at Neighbor for Neighbor Medical Clinic
- Sunday and/or Thursday evenings at St. Luke’s Redemption Prison Ministries
- Any time through Boston Avenue’s Homebound Ministries

Monthly Service Opportunities
Respite Care - caring for children with handicapping conditions and their siblings so that parents can have an evening off.

Quilting for Others - its mission is just what the name implies. Since 2002, our quilters have provided quilts for Stork’s Next, Methodist Manor, Exodus House, and Circle of Care. Donated quilts have been auctioned off at the Boys’ Ranch Rodeo and Maranatha’s Christmas auction to raise money for missions. The group has great fun working together, and always encourages visitors, including anyone who is interested but has never quilted before. Donations of material or money to purchase supplies are always appreciated. The group meets the first Friday of every month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Other Service Opportunities
Boston Avenue and Burroughs Elementary, TOGETHER!
Boston Avenue United Methodist Church has been "Partners in Education" with Tulsa's John Burroughs Elementary School since 1999. Boston Avenue is blessed to make a significant difference in the lives of these children and teachers! For more information about ways you can help, contact Rev. EvaMarie Campbell at 918.699.0120.

Habitat for Humanity
Our church's most recent Habitat project was dedicated in July 2010. For more information on upcoming projects, contact Rev. Paul Staat at 918.699.0133.

July Mission Emphasis Month
Four or five community agencies, usually affiliated with the United Methodist Church, are chosen to receive donations during July Revival.

Other recent local mission projects include:
- Remodeling and repairs at sister United Methodist churches in north Tulsa.
- An annual "Wish Book" suggests ways that Sunday School classes and other small groups in the church can be in mission.

If you have any questions about our adult mission opportunities, please contact our Director of Missions, Paul Staat, at 918.699.0133.

Local Youth Missions

Each year, Boston Avenue's 6th Grade, 7th-8th Grade and Senior High youth also participate in local missions and service projects.

Good Samaritan Fund

In light of today's economy, Individuals and families who have never before sought help are facing life challenges and the financial strain of rising medical, housing, and utility costs. Quite often, those hardest hit are families with children.

Last year, our church provided emergency help to over one hundred individuals and families through our Good Samaritan Fund. The fund is kept going through donations from generous church members, and is used to help people in dire need by helping pay for utility bills, rent, bus tokens, etc. Each request is assessed carefully, then the funding goes to the vendor to pay the bill, not the individual.

If you would like to contribute to the Good Samaritan Fund to help those in need, please contact Brenda Reed at 918.699.0135 or Paul Staat at 918.699.0133.
